Mouse strains for chemical carcinogenicity studies: overview of a workshop.

چکیده
Chemical toxicology and carcinogenesis are dynamic disciplines, and the methodologies associated with these evaluations are under constant development and change. Accordingly, early in 1983, at the request of the National Toxicology Program (NTP), the NTP Board of Scientific Counselors established an Ad Hoc Panel on Chemical Carcinogenesis Testing and Evaluation with Dr. John Doull (University of Kansas) as the chairman. The charge to this Panel was to review the basic biology and chemistry of chemical carcinogenesis and to recommend to the NTP Board of Scientific Counselors methods that the NTP should use for the detection and evaluation of chemical carcinogens. The Panel issued a report (NTP, 1984) with a number of recommendations, one of which was “If a determination is made to maintain a two species bioassay protocol, give serious consideration to replacement of the B6C3Fl mouse with a strain having an established lower and less variable spontane-

Evaluation of carcinogenicity studies of medicinal products for human use authorised via the European centralised procedure (1995-2009).
Carcinogenicity data of medicinal products for human use that have been authorised via the European centralised procedure (CP) between 1995 and 2009 were evaluated. Carcinogenicity data, either from long-term rodent carcinogenicity studies, transgenic mouse studies or repeat-dose toxicity studies were available for 144 active substances contained in 159 medicinal products. Out of these compound...

Waterpipe smoking has become a global youth trend especially in the Middle East countries and Iran . The aim of this study was to determine the mutagenic effects of three most popular flavored tobaccos by four different salmonella typhimurium strains and compare the possible mutagenic effects of the test samples. Ames mutagenicity assessment was conducted according to the OECD guideline using T...

Background: Antimicrobial resistance is a global problem with enormous public health and economic impact. This study was carried out to get an overview of acquired antimicrobial resistance gene sequences in the genomes of Escherichia coli isolated from different food sources and the environment in Nigeria. Methods: To determine the acquired antimicrobial-resistant genes prevalence, genome asse...

The widespread use of naturally occurring alkenylbenzenes as flavoring and fragrance agents has led to a long-standing interest in their toxicity and carcinogenicity. Among them several allyl- and propenylbenzenes have been found to be mutagenic and carcinogenic. It has been shown that the carcinogenicity of several allylbenzenes can be related to the formation of electrophilic sulfuric acid es...
